2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational picks, predictions, field, odds: Golfer fades Justin Thomas at Bay Hill

0 22

The PGA Tour season resumes this week with another scheduled event at the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler will be back in action after both were top-ranked in the world in the last three weeks. The man who held that title coming into February, Rory McIlroy, will also be looking to get back in the race. They will be part of an Arnold Palmer invitational field that includes 23 of the top 25 golfers in the world (and 44 of the top 50). The tournament is scheduled to begin Thursday at Bay Hill Club & Lodge near Orlando, Fla. The field also features Xander Schauffele, Will Zalatoris and two-time major champions Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas. Recent winners such as Max Homa and Tony Finau could also be in the mix.

Rahm is the highest-ranked player in the world after his Genesis victory and is the 7-1 favorite in the final 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds. McIlroy (19-2) and Scheffler (11-1) are not far behind, and Homa, who won twice this season, has a price of 19-1. Morikawa (21-1), Thomas (23-1), Schauffele (24-1) and Zalatoris (24-1) are also among the top contenders in the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2023 field. Any Palmer 2023, be sure to check out the PGA Tour predictions and best bets from SportsLine golf sportscaster Patrick McDonald.

After spending time at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in the spring of 2022. Now covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to keep his toes entered the betting pools each week on the PGA Tour. McDonald uses a weighted approach to his overall picks and has a profitable 2022-23 season. It is up more than 20 units this season, meaning a profit of more than $ 2,000 for $ 100 bettors.

McDonald drew the Farmers Insurance Open, backing Homa (25-1) as his top choice. The specialist also just missed out on a massive 130-1 score at the Sony Open when Hayden Buckley finished second. He hit another 25-1 shot at the Houston Open, leading Tony Finau to victory. The expert finished the 2021-22 season up 42 units on his limits, including a monster payment of 250-1 on Hudson Swafford at The American Express. Anyone who follows McDonald’s advice has been pulling in money.

Now, McDonald has surveyed the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational field and has broken down his best bets, top sleepers and picks. You can go to SportsLine now to see all of McDonald’s PGA picks and analysis.

Arnold Palmer 2023 Invitational Major Expert

One surprise: The expert is rooting for Thomas, the former world No. 1 and one of their favorites. The 29-year-old has finished in the top 25 in four straight tournaments, tying for fourth three weeks ago in Phoenix. He has struggled with his top-level short game, but McDonald says “inefficiency in other aspects of his game” makes him an easy loss. The two-time PGA Championship winner has not been anywhere near the level of Rahm, Scheffler and others. Thomas is ranked 93rd in strokes gained and 115th in putting.

Meanwhile, the expert knows that Rahm is the best of several hot golfers and doesn’t expect him to fade too much. The 28-year-old has regained top status, giving him even more confidence than he had already earned from his incredible run. The Spaniard has five victories in his last 10 events around the world and has finished in the top 10 in all of them. He won the Genesis at 17 under par and is 93 under in his last five events. Rahm leads the tour in greens in regulation (75.7%) and scoring average (67.2) and is ninth in strokes gained. See who he’s supporting at SportsLine.
