AACTA Awards 2024: Cal Wilson and Jock Zonfrillo receive posthumous awards
The AACTA Awards last night’s event took the opportunity to honor those who have left us, with both of them Cal Wilson and Jock Zonfrillo receiving posthumous rewards and tributes from loved ones.
Wilson won Best Comedy Actress for her guest role on it The Great Australian Baker, which her husband Chris Woods, and their 14-year-old son, Digby collected in her place.
Woods said his late wife would have been “proud” of her achievements, saying the show was a “dream gig” for her.

“This award was a great way to recognize Cal’s talent and tenacity in the industry,” he said.
“Tomorrow will be four months since I lost my wife, four months since Digby lost his mother and four months since the world lost an amazingly talented woman.”
Wilson died on October 11, 2023 at the age of 53 after a short battle with a rare form of cancer.

“We miss her every day. Thank you so much for honoring her today,” said the father and son as they walked off stage to a standing ovation from listeners.
Jock Zonfrillo’s wife Lauren Fried also spoke about her late husband after his show MasterChef won Best Reality Series.
“I’d like to thank Andy Allen,” she said, referring to Zonfrillo’s fellow judge on the show, who was also on stage at the time.

She shared that when Zonfrillo’s oldest daughter, Ava, had to deliver her father’s eulogy, “she chose Andy to stand by her side and that says everything about the special place that is in our family.
“Without Jock, the days seemed drained of colour, but today is a source of pride and celebration for the children and me.”
Zonfrillo died on April 30, 2023 at the age of 46, with his body being found in a Melbourne hotel after police conducted a welfare check.

Fried is Zonfrillo’s third wife, with whom he shared young children Alfie and Isla, and two older daughters from his two previous marriages, Ava and Sophie.
