Across the Spider-Verse, ”Fast X” on the Road to $1 Billion
A month has passed since then Oppenheimerreleased, and the film has reached another milestone this weekend. Christopher Nolan’s World War II biopic has earned more than $717 million at the global box office, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of 2023 worldwide.
According to Box Office Mojo, Oppenheimer surpassed Disney’s The Little Mermaidis $567 million, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse $686 million, and X’s fast $704 million. Directly above is James Guinn’s Marvel swan song, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3which grossed $845 million during its theatrical run.
Diversity also reported that Oppenheimer is now Nolan’s fourth highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing 2014 Interstellar ($715 million), but it is just behind other blockbusters such as 2010s Start ($837 million), The Dark Knightand The Dark Knight Risesand both of them are around the $1 billion mark.
Nolan has directed two films that not only focus on World War II (the other Dunkirk with a haul of $527 million), and are both the highest-grossing films based on this historical theme. But, Oppenheimer he has a long way to go if he wants to compete with him Barbie. The other half of Barbenheimer’s fortune is currently at $1.2 billion, and he’s only $1 million away from breaking even. The new movie Super Mario Bros peak for 2023.
Unfortunately, Nolan’s latest blockbuster faces a hurdle in the worldwide box office battle as it has yet to be released in Japan. This makes sense, since Oppenheimer’s work led to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and Barbenheimer’s move sparked outrage in the country.
In spite, Oppenheimer is now showing in theaters, and has no plans to leave IMAX anytime soon.
