Alyssa Milano denies Shannen Doherty was fired from Charmed
Alyssa Milano insists she didn’t have enough power to kick anyone out of Charmed, especially Shannen Doherty.
When Prue Halliwell was killed in the third season of Charmed, there was only one name to blame as far as fans were concerned. No, it wasn’t Shax but Alyssa Milano, whose behind-the-scenes feud with Shannon Doherty led to the death of her on-screen sister in the season finale, “All Hell Breaks Loose “. Now, Milano is speaking out against the claim, saying she didn’t even have the urge to take someone off the show.
In an Instagram post, Alyssa Milano wrote about the allegations against her about the Charmed drama, “This was so long ago that anyone’s retelling of these stories is just revisionary history. I will add, however, with absolute certainty – everything was recorded. There was a professional mediator (I was told Holly [Marie Combs] and Shannen would not participate in any mediation) and an on-set representative/caretaker who were brought in to investigate all claims. It was then suggested by this mediator, after gathering evidence from the cast AND the cast – what changes should be made if the show was to continue. The studio, Aaron Spelling, and the network made the decision to protect the international hit Charmed. I didn’t have the power to fire anyone. When Shannen left we had 5 more successful seasons and I am forever grateful.”
The post from Alyssa Milano came after a MegaCon fan asked about the situation. It was there that the actress – played by Phoebe Halliwell – skirted the question a bit, without saying that she wrong that she fired Doherty but also says that the whole situation has been unfortunate for the team and the fans. “I’ll just say I’m sad. And I don’t think it’s really that I’m sad for me or for my life or how it affects or affects my life. I am the saddest for the fans. I am so saddened that a show that has meant so much to so many people has been marred by toxicity that to this day, almost a quarter of a century later, is still going on forward.”
Alyssa Milano also said she wished people could move on, because it only brings back bad memories from doing Charmed. However, she hopes for a reunion, saying, “Do I wish we could all sit on a stage? Yeah, because again, this was like almost a quarter of a century ago. How is it possible to continue with that? And I, you know, I think I’ve been very positive and taken responsibility for and apologized for, whatever part I played in the situation. And I’ve been very knowledgeable about that. And so I don’t know how else to fix it. I don’t even know if I could put myself out there any more than I already have to try to fix it. But yes, it’s heartbreaking.”
The last quote is somewhat different from what Alyssa Milano has done on social media, as she says she has taken responsibility, even if she later denied any wrongdoing. Nevertheless, it is unfortunate for the legacy of Charmed – which ran for eight seasons – that there is such a dark cloud over his reputation.
One of Alyssa Milano’s other co-stars, Rose McGowan (Prue instead of Paige Matthews), has also been called out for “horrible behavior” on set.
But Alyssa Milano’s comments are explained and received by Charmed fans, it is likely that the leaders will not be reuniting. Instead, we got a reboot that, yes, caused a dispute between the writers of the two versions. Maybe cursed maybe a better title would have been…
Did you love it? Charmed? Do you see the disputes ever ending?
