A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Mexico on Monday, shaking and displacing buildings in the capital, Mexico City.

The quake was felt southeast of La Placita de Morelos in Michoacán state, west of Mexico City, according to the US Geological Survey.

Mexico City Mayor Claudia Schienbaum said there was no damage.

Buildings in the center of the capital were evacuated. The shock came barely an hour after the city held its annual earthquake drill to commemorate the massive earthquakes of 1985 and 2017.
