Angelina Jolie has revealed that she deliberately started taking fewer roles in films a few years ago.
In her recent Vogue cover story about her new fashion house Atelier Jolie, the Oscar-winning actress opened up about her current stage of life and how she’s “still figuring out who I am at 48.
“I guess I’m in transition as a person,” she said. “I’m feeling a little down these days. I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for ten years, in a way which I don’t want to get into.”
As Jolie works to figure out what’s most important to her and where she wants to focus her energy, she said Atelier Jolie has played a big role. Especially since she revealed that she made the decision to start working on fewer films about seven years ago and “just take jobs that didn’t require long shoots. ”
She said, “We had a lot of healing to do. We are still finding our footing.”
Although Jolie has not shared many details about her reason for limiting the acting roles she takes, it seems she is looking for other creative outlets such as with her fashion brand, where she hopes to create a sense of community.
“I think part of this has also been therapeutic for me – working in a creative space with people you trust and rediscovering yourself,” she explained. “I hope to change many aspects of my life. And this is the one in front.”
Since the early ’90s, Jolie has been a force throughout Hollywood, receiving an Academy Award in 2000 for Girl, Broken. She has appeared in dozens of other famous films such as Changing, Maleficent, Salt and Mr & Mrs Smith before finally appearing on the big screen in Marvel’s 2021 film Eternal.
In addition to films and Atelier Jolie, the actress announced last month that she has also boarded the next Broadway musical adaptation of the SE Hinton classic The Strangers as a primary producer.
