Another Spider-Man Spinoff is headed our way
As a kid growing up reading Marvel Comics, I always hoped there would be movies of the X-Men and Spider-Man, and as time went on and things like that. Batman became big blockbusters, I began to think that they would. But never, in my years, even after that iron man it launched an entire cinematic universe of Marvel characters that had me thinking “When is it going to be Madame Web’s turn?”
Dear reader, it’s Madame Web’s turn.
Defying all my preconceived notions about what makes a good superhero movie or what fans of the genre are looking for, Sony has made a record. Madame Web movie, which is technically spun off from their Spider-Man franchise (or at least made using the screen rights they have thanks to it). The original Madame Web character of the comics was a blind woman who sat in a magical chair and told Spider-Man prophecies about the future. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say: That’s not quite the movie Sony decided to make.
Instead, Dakota Johnson stars as a young psychic who has an accident and then gains clairvoyant powers, which she then uses to stop an obscure Spider-Man villain. y. Check out the trailer for the film below:

Madame Web says this villain is “Ezekiel Sims” who is a character from Marvel – although he is usually portrayed as an enigmatic friend of Spider-Man with spider abilities of his own; he was one of the first characters to pave the way early to the idea of Spider-Verse and stories where many people, rather than just Peter Parker, have spider powers. Clearly, this movie went in a different direction…
Here is the official synopsis of the film:
‘Meanwhile, in another universe…’ In a twist from the usual genre, Madame Web tells the origin story of one of Marvel’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic with clairvoyant abilities. Desperate to confront revelations about her past, she forms relationships with three young women who are destined to be involved in powerful futures… if they can all survive a deadly gift.
Madame Web is slated to open in theaters on February 14, 2024. And I can’t think of a more romantic movie to watch on Valentine’s Day.
