Founded in 2012 by two UK-based Igbos, Nnamdi Kanu and Uche Mefor, as a peaceful movement, they launched an armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in South-East Nigeria in 2020, saying they were doing that to protect him. Igbos, although the critics say that he has unleashed violence that has caused great suffering.
