A British man has died after a paragliding accident in Portugal.

The emergency services, including firefighters, rushed to the area after receiving a 999 call at around 9pm on July 4 from a local person telling them that a paraglider had fallen to the ground.

The victim had reportedly already gone into cardiac arrest when he was found in an area described as “difficult to access”.

Despite the assistance given to him by medical experts, the man tragically died at the scene.

It was not immediately clear whether the unnamed man was in Portugal on holiday or had made the country his home.

The accident happened in an area called Vale Bom, a paradise for any nature lover which is an hour’s drive north of Lisbon.

With windmills and sleepy villages, this is also a famous wine region.

On Wednesday, authorities were investigating the cause of the accident.

One unconfirmed report said the man had been practicing powered paragliding, also known as paramotoring, which sees the pilot wear a rear pack motor providing enough thrust to take off. by using a paraglider.
