David Fincher’s The Killer reigns supreme on Netflix’s top 10 chart
David Fincher’s The Killer reigns supreme on Netflix’s top 10 chart as the week’s most watched title with 27.9 million views.
by David Fincher The Killer made its streaming debut on Netflix just a few days ago, but it’s gaining popularity, shooting to the top of the streaming service’s Top 10 English Movies List with 27.9 million views.
The Killer was #1 in 88 countries and reached Netflix’s top 10 in 93 countries, making it the most watched title of the week. The film is based on the French graphic novel of the same name written by Alexis “Matz” Nolent and illustrated by Luc Jacamon. Michael Fassbender stars as an assassin who becomes embroiled in an international manhunt after a botched hit.
The Killer received largely positive reviews after its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. In his review of the film, our own Chris Bumbray said that it “feels like Fincher’s attempt to deliver a simpler film to Netflix as payback for paying for his (excellent) passion project, Monk. However, audiences who catch this on Netflix shouldn’t expect a wall-to-wall action romp. Instead, Fincher’s film is as cold and serious as its main character, with its murderous business more relaxed than usual for the genre. Fassbender’s eponymous killer does things that John Wick or the noble assassin played by Chow Yun-Fat in John Woo’s thriller of the same title would sneer at, including killing cargo -helpless bystanders who are, if not completely innocent, then at least close to it.” Bumbray said at the time The Killer No”Fincher high,“he is still the”expertly assembled and attractive“film that offers Michael Fassbender”a strong return to form after several terrible films.“You can check out the rest of Bumbray’s review here.
The film has also drawn praise from David Fincher’s fellow filmmakers, including Guillermo del Toro, who tweeted, “The Killer is a beautiful Bronson film if written by Sartre and filmed by Melville with the speed of Siegel. I love, love, love when Fincher moves with a mean sex beat. Very nice and detailed and fun watch. The warmest movie I’ve seen in a long time. It is good when you can see a movie and a movie at the same time.“
