Diversity leader says fired from California college for questioning racist ‘orthodoxy’

The director of a California college’s Office of Equity, Social Justice and Multicultural Education says she was terminated after she began questioning the school’s anti-racist “orthodoxy,” refusing to go into a “socialist network” and refused to use the word “Latinnx”.
De Anza College, a community college in Cupertino, California, allegedly retaliated against Tabia Lee after she protested several campus inclusion policies.
She told Inside Higher Ed that she lost her job after opposing the college’s land recognition for an indigenous tribe, tried to bring a “Jewish inclusion” event to campus, refused to join to a “socialist network,” she refused to use the terms “Latinx” and “Filipinx” and asked why the word “black” was capitalized but not “white.”
“I no longer participate in gender names because I find that the same toxic ideologies surrounding race ideologies are now being promoted under gender ideologies; I also find that the ongoing obsession with pronouns and name disclosure causes deep discomfort for gender-identifying people. fluid or struggling with gender dysphoria,” she said.

Lee also allegedly disparaged the founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, according to the service.
A colleague had accused Lee, who is Black, of “talking white,” “whitesplaining” and supporting White supremacy.
And while Lee has not filed a lawsuit against the college yet, she says she is not ruling out doing so eventually.
The college, however, has pushed back on the allegations, with district Chancellor Judy Miner writing in a letter obtained by Inside Higher Ed that Lee’s termination was based, in part, on her.[p]persistent inability to demonstrate cooperation in working with colleagues and co-workers” and “unwillingness to accept constructive criticism.”
The school’s Tenure Review Committee voted Tuesday not to rehire Lee as a contract employee for the next academic year. She has been working with De Anza College since 2021.

“In everything about teacher education that I’ve done and been exposed to in recent years, there are a lot of ideologies being pushed – a lot of time one man, but no one is naming what ‘ there,” Lee said. “I was told that [I] I was supposed to advance what I then called a third-wave anti-racist ideology.”
Lee says she received backlash shortly after starting her job in August 2021. She said her Tenure Review Committee was reconstituted when she filed a complaint after to tell her that she would not be recommended for continuation before the committee gave its decision.
“Even though the main oppressor resigned at the end of the 21-22 school year, the damage was already done,” Lee said. “One of his advisors—the same person who invited me to the socialist network and who accuse me of being disrespectful. [Black Lives Matter co-founder] Alicia Garza—sat on my Tenancy Review Committee until she was removed as part of a grievance settlement. But her longtime friend, dean of equity and participation remained sitting on the level II committee and the games continued. “

Lee’s termination came shortly after she published an essay on February 28 in the Journal of Free Black Thought on Substack.
“Under the banner of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts, in many learning environments a non-reconstructive race orthodoxy (ist) has emerged that actively works to create frameworks, methods, methods and another to suppress and prohibit dealing with America. the race(ist) problem of education,” Lee wrote.
“Currently in many American schools, non-reconstructive third-wave ideologies of racial equity rooted in flawed reconstructions and redefinitions of race and racism emphasize racial strife ( ist) perpetually and dangerously driving the scope of mainstream educational research, discourse, and practice,” she continued.
De Anza College did not immediately respond to a request for comment from FOX News Digital.
