Dwayne Johnson reveals why he wanted a standalone film for Black Adam

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson recently sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair Thursday.

During the session, Johnson admitted that he persuaded Warner Bros. to introduce the character of Black Adam in a separate film.

The wrestler-turned-actor noted, ‘When the first draft of the film came to us, it was a combination of Black Adam and Shazam: two origin stories in one film. Now that was the goal – so it wasn’t a complete surprise.’

“But when I read it, I realized, ‘We can’t make this film like this,'” he added. We’re going to be doing incredible service to Black Adam.”

The 50-year-old businessman said, ‘Shazam would have had two origin stories combined in one film, but it’s not good for Black Adam.’

Johnson added that he called studio executives and expressed his concerns. Introducing both the characters in the same film is not a good idea for both the characters, he claimed.

“I said, ‘I want to share my thoughts here,'” the Jumanji star explained. It’s not very popular’ because everyone thought, ‘Oh, this script is great, let’s do this movie.’ I said, ‘I really think you’re ‘Shazam!’ Should be made, make that film in the tone you want. And I think we should separate this too.’

Furthermore, Shazam! Hit the big screen in 2018.

More about Black Adam’s standalone movie

Dwayne Johnson’s wish came true as the film Black Adam was in the post-production stage. Jaume Collet-Serra will serve as its director.

The film also stars Viola Davis, Sarah Shahi, Pierce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge and Noah Centineo.

Collette-Serra revealed to Vanity Fair that the upcoming film will not be a ‘typical superhero movie’.

The film will introduce Black Adam and we will gradually learn what happened to make him a villain.

The motion picture is slated to release in theaters on October 21, 2022.

However, Johnson’s Black Adam and Zachary Levy’s Shazam could very well cross paths in future films. Furthermore, since the title of Shazam’s sequel Shazam! Fury of the God will probably release later this year.
