What year is it?!?
Well, the calendar on my computer tells me it’s 2023. But somehow, in the year 2023, there is a new one Beverly Hills Cop movie, and somehow Eddie Murphy appears as the wisecracking Detroit politician Axel Foley.
Fourth Beverly Hills Cop film has been in development for several years. (Beverly Hills Cop IIIwhich was not very successful, which came out in 1994.) Before this film went into final production, there was also a pilot for Beverly Hills Cop A TV series featuring Murphy as Foley in a cameo, mostly focused on his son, played by Brandon T. Jackson.
While I went through life assuming that this project would never be made, here is now hard evidence that it does indeed exist: The first officer still from the film, with the official name Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foleywhich had just been published by Empire. Check out:

Big time Beverly Hills Cop said franchise representative Jerry Bruckheimer Empire When Murphy returned to one of his signature characters, “anytime he walks on set, you don’t know what you’re going to get. And it’s always really great … Every day he’s there throwing you back to the ’80s.”
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley will make Murphy’s second legacy adaptation of one of his ’80s comedy classics. He did it before Coming 2 Americasequel to 1988’s Coming to America. That film was produced by Paramount and was expected to play in theaters, but during the pandemic Paramount sold the film to Amazon, which released it on the service their Prime Video streaming. So to what extent the film was a “hit” or a “flop” is rather difficult to measure. (The film received rave reviews from critics.) The new one Cop the sequel was directed by Mark Molloy and written by Will Beall, Tom Gormican, and Kevin Etten. The cast includes returning franchise veterans Judge Reinhold and John Ashton as Beverly Hills cops Rosewood and Taggart, as well as Paul Reiser as Foley’s partner from Detroit, and Bronson Pinchot as the immortal Serge.
