EXCLUSIVE: Shahid Kapoor reveals why he hated his ‘Cute’ image: ‘I learned to be gracious and accepting’

Shahid Kapoor, the talented Bollywood actor is on a high with the excellent reviews received by his last outing Farzi. The Amazon Prime web series, which is helmed by acclaimed director Raj and DK, marked Shahid’s OTT debut. The actor, who is known for his unique portrayals of flawed, gray-haired characters, played the lead character Sunny in Farzi, which has already achieved OTT superhit status among audiences.
In a recent exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Shahid Kapoor opened up about his 2-decade long acting career and revealed why he hated his ‘cute boy’ image.
Shahid Kapoor hates being called ‘Cute’
Interestingly, the versatile actor who has spoken extensively about his acting career in his chat with Pinkvilla, revealed that he hated it when people called him ‘cute’. He also said he didn’t like the ‘Vanilla’ characters (his famous boy-next-door roles). “I hate that word Vanilla. You know, I used to hate it when people would say ‘Oh you’re smart’. I hate it. I was like ‘Why would you say that to anyone.’ I’ve never liked that word. I’ve learned to be gracious and accept it now, that people throw it at me. But I just felt it was very limiting,” explained Shahid.
Shahid Kapoor loved gray characters
In his conversation with Pinkvilla, the actor also admitted that he loves the grey-black characters. “I’m drawn to unconventional characters. You have to be an artist, that’s what Farzi is about. So, I think some of my personal problems are connected to Sunny in Farzi. And I wanted to express myself, you know. I wanted people to see my soul, to understand my feelings, to know my mind, and not just to ‘ stay busy with what’s out there. That’s important, it’s important,” concluded Shahid Kapoor.
