Fans turned away at 2024 WM Phoenix Open as TPC Scottsdale reaches capacity

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Just before the weather-delayed second round ended just before 2pm on Saturday at the 2024 WM Phoenix Open, tournament organizers briefly closed the entrances to TPC Scottsdale. Additional fans were not allowed to enter the contest.

This is the first time this has happened in the history of the events. It is not clear what fans will do with tickets at the moment but if enough fans leave, more fans could be allowed in.

Because there is so much traffic around the course, golf carts are also parked. Usually, TV crews with big cameras or tournament or PGA Tour officials move around the property during the day but with so much foot traffic, golf carts are put away.

The Friday and Saturday rounds of the tournament were announced to sell out a few days before the tournament.

In 2019, tournament organizers stopped announcing daily attendance numbers. In 2018, the Phoenix Open reported the largest single-day crowd of 216,818 for the third round on Saturday as well as total attendance for the week at 719,179.
