“Johnny was finally diagnosed with a rare brain cancer, which – despite a period of remission – he is still battling today,” the synopsis continued. “But in a strange way Johnny believes that the cancer saved his life.”
After his cancer returned in 2020, he continued to document his health journey on social media, including photos from his chemotherapy appointments.
“After an unexpected week of seizures and headaches,” Ruffo wrote on Instagram in November 2020, “it is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that I now have another big battle ahead of me because my brain cancer is back, even if I dig deep and beat this s–t disease again.”
In another post, the singer promised to “break this chemo,” writing to fans, “Thank you for all the support, you guys have helped keep my spirits up and I you keep me fighting.”
