US General Hodges allows Ukrainian military to deploy missiles near Crimea
The former commander-in-chief of the US Army in Europe, Ben Hodges, said in an interview with RTVI that the Ukrainian military has the “potential” to move to Crimea and deploy short-range missile systems there.
Hodges did not name the ultimate goal of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. “But there are clear indications that moving to Crimea and then placing short-range missile systems very close to Russian positions would naturally improve the strategic balance of power,” he said.
The general also commented on the possible use of nuclear weapons by Russia in Ukraine. He believes this would give Moscow “a certain advantage in a military sense” but at the same time draw the United States into the conflict.
“And if the United States wants to respond, naturally it will not be a nuclear response, because it is important to maintain balance and prevent the conflict from becoming an open nuclear conflict,” he said. According to him, the US side, even without nuclear weapons, has the ability to cause irreparable damage to the Russian military.
