Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decided to postpone the governorship and state assembly elections.

The elections, originally scheduled to take place on March 11, have been postponed until March 18, 2023.

The postponement is due to the inability of the commission to quickly redesign the Bimodal Voter Verification System (BVAS) machines used during the February 25 presidential election to be used in state elections.

INEC was earlier restrained from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS devices until due investigation was done and certified true copies (CTC) sent to candidates who challenge the outcome of the presidential election.

The Commission had convinced the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal to vary its order allowing Peter Obi of the Labor Party and Atiku Abubakar’s PDP to inspect election materials on the grounds that they needed a Bimodal Voter Accreditation system (BVAS) redesign for. holding the polls this past Saturday.
