‘Insidious’ Spin-Off Casts Mandy Moore & Kumail Nanjiani
Horror fans are just a month away from Insidious: The Red Doorspread. The fifth film in the popular horror series has a lot going on. It has a franchise star Patrick Wilson making his directorial debut and returning to star alongside his original co-stars Ty Simpkins and Rose Byrne. Red Doorofficially closes the story of the Lambert family which led many people to believe that this would be the last film in the franchise. However, now that doesn’t seem to be the case as the sixth film is rumored to be, Topic: A non-professional storyin the works from Screen Gems, Blumhouse, and Wan’s Atomic Monster.
Date of said statement Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani closing in on deals to star in the film with Knight of the Moonand Jeremy Slater directing the spooky project from a screenplay he wrote. Slater has a knack for directing horror with the unpopular Exorcist TV series, but Thread will be his directorial debut. While this is shockingly new news, there is a lot of information we already know about the supposed sixth film. The story would be an “offshoot” of the series and not follow the Lamberts or any of the established characters. Instead, he will see “a husband and wife (Nanjiani and Moore) who seek the help of a spell to travel back in time, so that they can prevent the death of their young daughter. The consequences are, of course, very serious. “
While preventing someone’s death is nothing new for Insidious, the ghostly realm that haunts this world “The Further” is not known for its spells (unless you count demonic possession and curses like spells) or time travel. At least time travel in the traditional sense. The Beyond has also been an entity outside of time and space so it will be exciting to see how these “time travel” elements expand the lore of this terrifying realm. This movie at least looks like another emotionally complicated family story of survival. Plus, with the series moving on from the Lamberts, you’ll be hard-pressed to find better actors to pick up the dreaded baton than Nanjiani and Moore.
Insidious it’s a scary species
Although it is a little surprising that there is a new one Insidious a film has already been greenlit a month before the release of the next film, it should not be for this same reason. It’s been five years since the last movie, Insidious: The Last Key so it will be interesting to see how Red Door it will play against the rest of the series which was at the height of its spurious power. Since it’s another budget movie from Blumhouse, and it’s the concussion to Lamberts arc, it’s expected to be another horror hit for 2023. Also, the franchise in general has been good in terms of quality. Despite being a spinoff, it will be interesting to see if it is Red Door setting up a Thread in any scary way.
