The Israeli military said at 2 am local time that they are carrying out “a detailed and targeted operation against Hamas” in the largest hospital in Gaza. In the al-Shifa hospital complex, which has run out of fuel and is no longer working, there are hundreds of patients and health workers and thousands of displaced people. Israel and the United States have said that Hamas fighters are operating out of facilities designated for humanitarian purposes. Doctors, first responders and the few remaining aid workers in the area – working under increasingly appalling conditions – have denied that terrorists are using them for cover . Hamas criticized the Biden administration’s comments after the announcement by the Israel Defense Forces, saying the White House gave a “green light” for the operation.
