Josh Safdie to direct Adam Sandler Stand-up Special
Adam Sandler and Josh Safdie is teaming up again, this time on Sandler’s next comedy special for Netflix. According to a recent report from The Insneider, Sandler and Safdie are working together to create the remake for Sandler’s 2018 stand-up film, Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh.
The couple infamously teamed up with Josh’s brother Benny Safdie for 2019’s Uncut Gems, which garnered critical acclaim for Sandler’s performance. In addition to the comedy special, Sandler was also set to star in Safdie’s latest film alongside Ben Affleck and Megan Thee Stallion, although the film has since been canceled due to the SAG strikes and WGA and no further updates are available.
What is Sandler and Safdie’s next film project about?
The untitled project will be directed by Josh Safdie from a screenplay he wrote with his brother Benny Safdie. This marks Josh Safdie’s second solo directorial feature following his “temporary” split from Benny Safdie.
It is currently unclear if their rumored split was also one of the reasons for the recent Netflix movie delay. Before the Safdie brothers gained recognition for their work on Good Time and Uncut Gems, Josh Safdie made his directorial debut in 2008’s The Pleasure of Being Robbed.
In addition to Sandler, the project would also include an all-star cast, including Ben Affleck, Megan Thee Stallion, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Steve Harvey.
“Set in the world of high-end sports card collecting in the 1990s, a retired baseball pitcher (Affleck) tries to make a comeback as a sports memorabilia agent (Sandler) tries to capitalize on his success, ” read the synopsis. “Megan Thee Stallion is said to be playing Affleck’s girlfriend.
