On the heels of some backlash based on his Rolling Loud performance, Lil Uzi Vert is taking the time to clarify the situation.

Notably, after getting caught rapping that he can “make a City Girl believe in Satan,” Uzi talks about how the lyrics aren’t “really” about the Devil.

Lil Uzi Vert says JT didn’t think too much of the comment

TMZ recently caught up with the rapper while he was out and about in Beverly Hills, and – after revealing that the song will be on his upcoming album – he spoke to the dispute

Uzi quickly clarified that the lyric was “not really [about] Satan.” Instead, he says he’s really aiming to point out how he can “make a girl do anything” he says.

When asked what JT thought of that lyric, Uzi replied that she “didn’t really think too much of it. ” He also said that JT knew about the reference and was present when he composed the song.

Uzi Says The Haters ‘Just Need To Chill’

As the conversation continued, Lil Uzi Vert talked about how he’s not worried about any backlash that might come his way, because his lyrics are what he puts declare his “freedom of speech.”

“I don’t really care about them even saying that. I just say whatever I want in my songs – it’s just my freedom of speech.”

He pointed out that he grew up in a “very religious family” and that he just says whatever he wants to say as an adult. “

Uzi also noted that while he doesn’t intend to be offensive with his music, the audience will always have “the option to turn it off.”

“Maybe they just need to chill a little.”

Finally, we must add that – when asked if he “believes[s] in Satan” – Uzi simply replied “no” before smiling shyly.

Summer Walker & Others previously bashed Lil Uzi’s Satan Lyrics: ‘There’s nothing funny or cute about it’

While we’re on the subject, we should note that Summer Walker expressed her displeasure with that verse on social media last week.

After quoting the rapper’s words, Summer said she was “very curious” about whether he had “ever seen or heard a demon before”. Then she openly wondered if it was a sign of a move and said, “I feel like if you are you would stop playing.”

The singer said, “There’s nothing funny or cute about it. May God be with you all.”

So, it looks like Summer isn’t a fan of Lil Uzi giving a shout out to Satan, and she’s not alone! Check out what some other detractors had to say below.

What do you think of the overall situation, and do you think critics are overreacting?
