In the quarter-finals on Friday, Inter Miami CF will host Charlotte FC at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
With goal maestro Messi still at the top of his game, Inter Miami has made an incredible run in the MLS-Liga MX competition. In four games, Messi has scored seven goals. Inter Miami’s round of 16 penalty shootout victory over FC Dallas in Frisco, Texas – Messi’s first road game with Inter Miami – was particularly interesting. Messi’s free kick goal in the 85th minute it capped off Miami’s second-half comeback in style.
Now, Inter Miami continues its quest for League Cup glory against the Charlotte FC team that is also a surprise partner in the quarter round.
The winner of the Inter Miami-Charlotte FC match will face the winner of Philadelphia Union-Querétaro in the semi-final on August 16.

When does Lionel Messi play?
Messi and Inter Miami will play against Charlotte FC in the League Cup quarterfinals on Friday, August 11 at 8:30 pm ET.
If Inter Miami is kicked out of the League Cup, the team’s next scheduled game will be August 23 against FC Cincinnati in the US Open Cup. Inter Miami’s next MLS regular season game – originally scheduled for August 20 against Charlotte FC – has been postponed to a later date to be announced. Therefore, Messi could make his MLS regular season debut on August 26 against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.

Charlotte FC is in just its second season of Major League Soccer and is enjoying perhaps the biggest moment in its young history with its run in the League Cup. Charlotte FC defeated FC Dallas in their opening match in the League Cup and then defeated Necaxa of Liga MX 4-1 to reach the knockout rounds. In the knockout rounds, Charlotte FC defeated Liga MX’s Cruz Azul in a penalty shootout and then Houston Dynamo FC in a wild late rally to set up a date with Messi and Inter Miami.
Onward Karol Swiderski he is the team’s leading scorer in Major League Soccer play with seven goals. He has also scored twice in League Cup play. Patrick Agyemang – the 12th overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft – also scored two League Cup goals.
