On January 29, DC Studios director and co-head James Gunn confirmed on Instagram that Milly Alcock has been cast as Supergirl in his revamp of the DC franchise.
“This is right,” James wrote in an Instagram post that included a screenshot of the Dateline article on Milly’s casting. “Milly is a very talented young actress, and I’m excited that She’s part of the DCU. She includes Kara as seen by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira.”
He later shared a post to his Instagram story, where he wrote, “Welcome to the DCU, Milly Alcock!”
Milly is best known for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen House of the Dragon.
She will star in the film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In November, James announced in an Instagram post that Ana Nogueira wrote the screenplay. “We are excited to move forward with this unique take on Supergirl in this beautiful, star-studded story,” James wrote in part.
Deadline reports that it is not confirmed whether Milly will appear as the character in the future Superman: Legacy movie with David Corenswet as Clark Kent.
Sasha Calle recently played the superhero in last year’s movie The Flash.
Melissa Benoist played Supergirl in the eponymous Arrowverse series from 2015 to 2021.
Laura Vandervoort took the character in the TV series Baile Beagappearing from 2007 to 2011.
