The new movie Super Mario Bros has officially earned over $1 billion dollars worldwide. Not only does that make it the highest-grossing video game movie ever released, it’s also the first movie of 2023 to gross over $1 billion. It also ranks among four others that have been able to do so much post-Covid. Those movies were Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominionand Avatar: The Path of Water.
Fortunately, today’s Mario Brothers look far better than the 1993 trainwreck. Super Mario Bros. The 2023 movie follows what would be expected from a Mario movie. This is the story of two plumbers trapped in the Mushroom Kingdom. For Mario to rescue Luigi and escape from that other world, he must defeat King Bowser.

The 1993 film was a mess throughout. The production was badly damaged by personnel changes, and usually, no one knew what they were doing. Nintendo also gave the production complete creative license to do whatever they wanted. One of the producers, Roland Joffe, decided that the Mario the concept was so established that they could rehearse the film endlessly. In the end it was a cyberpunk nightmare with very little comparison to the source material.
The 2023 film didn’t get the most critical reception of all time, but it did quite well for itself critically. It managed to appeal to people of all ages, and was a really fun family film. He also established very close to the source material. It seems that’s exactly what his target audience wanted.
