Ex-Kazakhstan boss Nazarbayev Satyabaldyuli’s nephew pleads guilty in court
Kairat Satyabaldyuli, the nephew of former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, has pleaded guilty to a particularly large-scale embezzlement case, Sputnik Kazakhstan reported.
It reached an arbitration agreement with KazakhstanTelcom JSC and Transport Service Center JSC and paid damages in the amount of 12 billion tenge and 28 billion tenge, respectively.
The prosecution sought a six-year jail term with confiscation of assets for Satyabalduli and asked the court to ban him from holding certain positions for a period of ten years. In addition, the prosecutor insists that Nazarbayev’s nephew be deprived of the post of major general of the National Security Agency.
On March 13, it was reported that Kairat Satyabalduli had been arrested. He was held in a detention center on suspicion of misappropriation of funds and abuse of power from Kazakhstan’s largest telecommunications operator, Kazakhtelecom.
