Rapper Details Overcoming “Mom Guilt”
As the 40-year-old opened up about the service, she spoke about her motherhood experience and how she initially expected her focus to “lose her desire to make music. “
“I think deep down, I believed that once I had a family, I would lose the desire to make music,” Minaj explained. “I would always tell people, ‘Look, when I have a kid I’m going to cook all the meals for him and bake cookies every day.’ Perhaps subconsciously I was hoping that my focus would just be on being a mother, and I was looking forward to that idea. It felt like relief. “
But, Minaj explained, “What happens is you find you have to work.”
The rapper then remembered meeting a woman who apparently lived a life opposite to her own life as a single homemaker. Minaj explained that although the woman was confident about her mothering skills, she began to “feel guilty about not working. ” However, Minaj explained, when the woman got a role, she felt “guilty for working.”
The 40-year-old went on to detail her epiphany.
“I was like, OMFG,” Minaj recalls. “She felt guilty when she was doing the perfect thing as a homemaker, and guilty as a working mother when she missed a moment in life…”
In addition, Minaj explained how the performance confirmed her continued passion for making music.
Maybe God would let that woman say that to me because it made me think, Well, if I’m going to have mother guilt, I might as well keep doing the only thing I know how to do. to be freaking, that’s to make music.”
The Single Mother Talks About Coming to a Place of Self-Acceptance
As the conversation continued, Minaj talked about “finally being happy” about who she is and where she is in her life.
“When you look around and try to keep yourself in a grateful frame of mind, it seems that the things you can be grateful for start to add up, and you realize that in the grand scheme of things things that most of the stuff you would have complained about. it’s so little about it,” the mother explained. “It’s been a constant race. But then you stop and you realize, there’s nothing to run around. That’s what’s changed in me. No it’s that I’ve taken these amazing steps. It’s just about finally being happy WHO you are the opposite where You are.”
In addition, the rapper reflected on her recent breast reduction while advocating for a good, healthy body.
“…Today I can say that I am at peace with who I am and how I look,” Minaj explained. “…Recently I had to have a breast reduction, and of course, I like it. I used to want a bigger butt, and now I look back and realize how stupid that was. So – love your curves, and love your non-curves. There’s nothing wrong with any of it.”
