Nigeria’s Super Falconets are the only African nation to qualify for the knockout stages of the ongoing 2022 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, beating South Korea 1-0 in their second game of the tournament on Sunday night.
The Nigeria Under-20 Women’s National Team has been in good form since the start of the 2022 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup and they managed to prove themselves again on Sunday as they earned a deserved win over their opponents.
The head coaches of both teams started their best players who helped them win their previous matches, but Nigeria eventually won the game by one goal.
Esther Oninezide’s injury-time goal was enough to give the Super Falconets maximum three points against South Korea’s under-20 women’s national team.
The win over the South Korean national team now moves the Super Falconets into the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria are one of two African representatives at the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica and have won all their two matches.
Africa’s other representative is Ghana’s under-20 women’s national team, but they are out of the tournament after losing their first two matches.
Ghana lost their first game 3–0 against the United States of America and lost 2–0 to Japan in their second game.
The Ghana Under-20 Women’s National Team have not picked up a single point in their first two matches and are currently bottom of the Group D table with zero points, meaning they are out of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Falconets are currently at the top of the Group C table with 6 points from 2 matches played.
