Before him Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverand For the first time on Disney Plus in a few days, fans got a glimpse of Danai Gurira Okoye’s character that didn’t make the theatrical cut that broke our hearts back in November.
It seems that even the nation of Wakanda is not immune to surrender Game of Thrones –esque politics when there is a power vacuum to exploit, with Okoye’s uncle using tongue-in-cheek verbal tactics, all too familiar to fans of George RR Martin’s work, to try and convince Okoye , a daughter of the Border Tribe, to make her bid for the throne.
In the clip, courtesy of IGN, we see doubt wash over Okoye’s face at the scene, but her uncle (Danny Sapani) decided to move her to his way of thinking, giving her advice ‘lay low and wait for the dust. calm down from the drumbeat of war before she moves.
This crucial piece of information seems to point towards some sort of Wakandan civil war in the future, as Shuri didn’t seem to show much interest in the throne after being empty with King T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), and Queen Ramonda. (Angela Bassett) after him.
What the future holds for Wakanda and those who deny it is anybody’s guess at this point. For now, we can look forward to dating again when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever lands on Disney Plus on February 1, and gets a physical release on February 7. After that, we patiently wait for Angela Bassett to win the Academy and finally take home an Oscar for the MCU. She gets it, or we riot.
