In a recent interview with Los Angeles Times, co-creator and showrunner of The Last of Us Craig Mazin he revealed that, before the WGA strike, he had begun developing something new Pirates of the Caribbean a film by Ted Elliott’s original composer. Mazin confirmed that Disney liked Elliot’s script for the untitled project, which was unexpected because the story they did is “too weird”.

“We put it in and thought there was no way to buy it, it’s too weird. And they did,” Mazin said. “And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everybody’s waiting around.”

What’s next for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise?

It is currently unclear whether Mazin’s project is one of the two films previously teased by Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer, or whether it is an entirely new project. One of them is the Margot Robbie-led film that was previously slated to be cancelled. “We have a really good script,” Bruckheimer said. “We developed two of them – the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger one is close. Hopefully we can get them both.”

Robbie’s project is part of Disney’s growing list of ongoing live-action film adaptations of Disney theme parks including the Scarlett Johansson-directed Tower of Terror, the series Jungle Cruise in which Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt return, and the next Big Big. Film thunder mountain.
