Priyanka Chopra reveals why she chose surrogacy: ‘I had medical problems’
Priyanka Chopra, the famous actress is currently enjoying her new role as a mother. The popular star and her husband, famous actor-singer Nick Jonas welcomed their first child, daughter Malti Marie via surrogacy in January 2022. The global icon has been setting an example by ‘ handle both her personal life and her acting career together as a boss. She is also active as an entrepreneur, with her New York-based Indian restaurant Sona and hair care brand Anomaly. Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Vogue, Priyanka Chopra revealed why she chose surrogacy.
Priyanka Chopra on welcoming Malti Marie through mother-in-law
In her interaction with Vogue, Priyanka Chopra revealed why she and her husband Nick Jonas decided to opt for surrogacy, to welcome their little girl. “I had medical problems,” said the famous actress, who prefers to keep the circumstances that led to their decisions completely private. “This was a necessary step. And, I’m so grateful that I was in a position where I could do this,” said Priyanka Chopra. The Matrix Resurrections actress also talked about her agent, in her interview with Vogue. “Our agent was so generous. She is kind, loving, and funny, and she took care of this precious gift for us for six months,” she said.
“You don’t know me. You don’t know what I’ve been through. And just because I don’t want to do my medical history, or my daughter’s history, the public doesn’t have the right for you to make up. whatever the reasons,” said Priyanka Chopra while explaining why she doesn’t want to talk about her maternity journey.
Priyanka Chopra addresses genealogy controversies
In her conversation with Vogue, Priyanka Chopra also accepted the controversies regarding her genealogy. The actress, who revealed that she was not concerned about what people think of her, however, said that she could not handle it when the public focuses on her little girl. “I’ve developed a hard hide when people talk about me. But it hurts so much when they talk about my daughter. I’m like, ‘Keep her out of it.’ I know what it was like to hold her little hands as they tried to find her veins. “I have been very protective of this chapter of my life with my daughter Because it’s not just about my life. It’s hers too,” she said.
For the uninitiated, the netizens and even many celebrities brutally attacked Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas for opting for surrogacy. The new mother was accused of ‘faking’ her pregnancy and even renting out her womb in order to choose a ‘ready-made’ child. A popular writer even questioned Priyanka Chopra’s intentions behind choosing surrogacy, and said that the actress might not have the same maternal bond with her daughter.
Priyanka Chopra on Malti Marie’s health condition
In her interview with Vogue, Priyanka Chopra also talked about Malti Marie’s health condition, and the problems she had as a new baby. The actress revealed that her daughter was born prematurely and that too a full trimester before the due date. “I was in the operating room when she was born. She was so small, smaller than my hand. I saw what the nurses in the intensive care unit are doing. They are doing God’s work. Nick and I both stood there as they brought in I don’t know how they even found what they needed in her little body to bring in,” the actress recalled.
According to Priyanka Chopra, she and Nick had to visit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Rady Children’s Hospital in La Jolla, Los Angeles every day for the next three months. Malti Marie was born amid the Omicron wave that hit the US in 2022, and made things harder for the couple. “We spent every day with her on my chest, on my husband’s chest. I didn’t know if he would do it or not,” said the actress.

The project features Priyanka Chopra, along with Sam Heughan and Céline Dion. She plays the role of Mira Ray, an Indian woman who finds love after losing her lover. The actress also has a lead role in Citadel, the upcoming spy thriller series directed by Russo Brothers. She plays an Indian spy opposite Richard Madden, in the highly anticipated series.
When it comes to Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra is all set to make a grand comeback with the upcoming women’s road movie, Jee Le Zaraa. The much awaited project, directed by Farhan Akhtar, is touted to be a spiritual sequel to the hit film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which released in 2011. The film will celebrate Priyanka’s first on-screen collaboration with popular actresses Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif. Jee Le Zaraa is expected to go on floors by mid-2023.
