Paris Saint-Germain win 3-1 Coupe de France at Stade Brestois 29 On Wednesday he was slightly miffed when it emerged after the game that Kylian Mbappe had taken a blow to his ankle. Although the France international held on and finished the game which saw him open the scoring with his 30th goal of the season in all competitions, his final 20 minutes were uneventful. comfortable

Lillian Brassier was sent off after 69 minutes for a second in less than 10 minutes and a closer inspection showed the France defender caught Mbappe’s ankle. Although the PSG man was back on his feet and able to play forward for the rest of the game, he was clearly uncomfortable and left the Parc des Princes pitch immediately at full-time.

Mbappe went through immediate tests in the Parisien locker room which was reassuring less than a week after the return of UEFA Champions League action and a round of 16 affair with Real Sociedad. PSG now have the results of those tests and the French captain is unlikely to miss Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash with Lille OSC in Paris despite training indoors on Friday.

“After his seizure in Brest, Kylian Mbappe will work in the gym today,” read PSG’s brief medical update on Friday. “He will, however, be able to join the team for the match on – front of LOC.

While there is no guarantee that Mbappe will start against Les Dogues, there is no doubting his status ahead of the UCL first leg against the Basque outfit. The bigger question of whether Mbappe should be playing as much as he has recently remains a valid one, but it should be remembered that the Les Bleus captain started this season later than the his players.

Without a proper pre-season due to his contract situation and with a full schedule, not to mention Mbappe’s desire to lead his country at the UEFA Euro 2024 and Paris Olympic Games this summer, the 25-year-old who are at high risk of injury. it seems publicly that he thinks that so many games in such a short period of time is not a bad thing.

“We’re approaching the NBA model with 70-game seasons,” Mbappe told GQ in France recently. “Personally, I’m not against playing so much, but we won’t be able to be good every time and give the audience the expected performance. In the NBA, players do not play every game and franchises use load management. But, today, if I decided to say ‘I’m tired, I’m not playing on Saturday’, it wouldn’t work.

“We are in an era of overspending, with a lot of games, where people expect a lot from players. I have shown that weight does not affect me negatively and I would even say that I need it. This is what allows us to maintain the level of excellence necessary to play at the highest levels.”

This latest injury scare may force Mbappe to reassess his view of the current state of football and the high demands he places on players. For now, however, PSG could miss their star man from the start against Lille this weekend in an attempt to be ready from the side against Sociedad in Europe next week and ‘ he could begin to regulate his minutes strictly.
