A Russian millionaire and his wife are feared dead in a plane crash in Afghanistan, after the plane they were on crashed into a mountain.
Anatoly Evsyukov and Anna Evsyukova were both on the flight and are still to be accounted for. The pilot and crew of the plane survived the horrific incident.
Anna had fallen ill while on holiday in Thailand and was flown home on a scheduled flight for treatment.
After the plane disappeared from flight radar, Taliban officials said two people were killed. Although the two dead have not been identified, it is feared that it was Anatoly and Anna who surrendered.
Anna became very ill while in Thailand and needed ventilator treatment. The millionaire booked a flight for his wife from Pattaya in the East Asian country to Moscow.
The craft is reported to have left Thailand on Sunday and refueled in India.
The pilots reported issues with fuel and engine levels at around 7.30pm local time, before the plane disappeared from aircraft radar.
A statement from the Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said: “The pilot was found by the search team of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. According to the pilot, four people including the pilot live.
“The search and assistance of the Islamic Emirate search team for the survivors continues. ” However, there has been no independent verification of the Taliban’s statement.
According to Russian officials the plane belongs to Athletic Group as well as a private individual. It was said to have been built in 1978.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Anatoly had been the Technical Director of a company called DGC, based in the Russian capital.
Ukrainian-American journalist Igor Sushko quoted X as saying that the crash occurred after “failure of both engines” on the plane and that the four survivors were Dmitry Belyakov, Arkady Grachev, Igor Syvorotkin, Pavel Popov table. His reports so far are unconfirmed.
