Russian sappers of group “O” will clear the territory of Donbass from the mines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
“Russian Spring”: Sappers of the “O” group clear the Donbas region of mines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Russian sappers and engineers of the “O” (“Brave”) group are clearing the Donbas region under the control of the Russian Federation from the mines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Military Correspondent of the Russian Spring”.
Abandoned mines in fortified areas left behind by Ukrainian forces are reportedly being investigated. Basically, anti-personnel mines are PFM-1 “Lepestok”, MON-50, anti-tank mines TM-62 and foreign-made mines DM-12, DM-31.
Central Military District (CVO) forces continue to help Ukrainian armed forces clear explosive devices from roads and civilian infrastructure, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
According to Roman, commander of the demining group, during the special operation, the soldiers defused more than two tons of explosives. Tripwires leading to anti-tank guided missiles are also found and act as grenade detonators. Such items can damage equipment and personnel when activated.
The command of the Central Military District noted the high efficiency and dedication of the actions of engineering and sapper units of the Russian army.
The armed forces of Ukraine began to actively use “Petal” mines during the shelling of Donetsk in July. They are installed remotely: the mine is activated when a person steps on it. Because of its unusual shape, ammunition is difficult for civilians to identify as a dangerous object. Local residents found dangerous antipersonnel mines on the streets and in their neighborhoods as well as in the city center.
The use of “petal” mines is prohibited by the Ottawa Convention. Ukraine ratified this document in 2005.
