‘Secret Invasion’ just gave the haters the biggest reason to cancel it for good

so far Secret Assault is a pretty mediocre MCU Disney Plus show. It’s light on action but heavy on mind and tension at a slow pace, which was fair enough than what was promised in the trailers. That’s probably why, compared to other MCU shows, it’s gotten surprisingly low viewing numbers.

Now MCU fans may have one more reason to tune in. The latest episode confirmed that Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes/War Machine has been replaced by a Skrull agent. Right now we don’t know where the real Rhodes is or when the switch happened, but fans of the character aren’t happy that they may have been looking at an imposter:

Personally, I don’t mind the reveal, however if Rhodes was a Skrull inside The Hawk and the Winter Soldier it retroactively makes his scenes with Falcon far less meaningful:

One logical theory says that Rhodes was replaced sometime later Endgame, the fact that he wouldn’t even know that Tony Stark is dead would be too weird. It’s also hard to argue with this idea:

Maybe this story would have worked better if it had a little more run up in other shows, maybe with characters mysteriously turning into Skrulls when they died?

And is Rhodes just a bad choice to be a Skrull?

With only two episodes to go, it is unlikely that the show will go back completely course for an action that is pleasing to the audience everyone. That said, with Gravik and his friends being introduced to the Super Skrulls we’re hoping for some bona fide superhero action in the coming weeks. Additionally, the Skrull Rhodes seems to have access to War Machine’s armor, so we might see Fury desperately trying to take down that steel behemoth using every trick in his arsenal.

Secret Assault on Wednesdays on Disney Plus.
