Sylvester Stallone pays tribute to ‘Rocky’ co-star Carl Weathers
Carl Weathers, the great athlete and actor, died at the age of 76 on Friday. People around the world have been mourning his death, and Sylvester Stallons released a moving tribute Rocky co-star on social media.
Weathers played Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films, and formed a close friendship with Stallone over the years. After Weathers’ death, an emotional Stallone stood in front of a photo of Creed and Rocky Balboa and talked about how much Weathers meant to him.
“When he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness, but I didn’t understand how great,” Stallone said. to have accomplished what we did with it Rocky without it. It was absolutely brilliant. His voice, his size, his power, his athletic ability, but more importantly his heart and soul.”
Stallone, getting choked up, finished with a heartfelt message for his spicy partner.
“Apollo, keep hitting.”
Weathers and Stallone worked together on the first one Rocky film, which was released in 1976. Both were very popular, and both worked side by side through Rocky IVwhich came out almost ten years after the first film in 1985.
Stallone wasn’t the only major action star Weathers worked with in his prolific career. He co-starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predatorand he worked with Charles Bronson in Death Hunt. Weathers also received leading billing in his own action films, such as Jackson’s action and Hurricane Smith.
