Texas Chainsaw Massacre Video Game: Kane Hodder is Grandpa
Kane Hodder voiced Leatherface and Grandpa in the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game
We knew from early on that Kane Hodder (who did stunt work on it Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III) doing the motion-capture performance for the character Leatherface in the new one Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham – game now available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S, and Xbox One. Later we learned the names of the other mo-cap actors: Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) as The Hitch-hiker; Troy Burgess (Swedish dicks) as The Cook; Kristina Klebe (Don’t get rid of it) as Sissy’s new killer character; Dove Meir (Excavation) as Johnny’s new killer character; Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), made the mo-cap for all passive female characters; and Hunter C. Smith (Fortunately) made the mo-cap for all the suffering male characters. But the Grandpa character is also in the game. Who did his mo-cap performance? As it turns out, Kane Hodder was also a Grandpa!
The information about Grandpa mo-cap’s performance came from Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night), who missed out on the mo-cap act but voices Johnny. In an interview with the Cult FM podcast, Maffei said, “(Kane) also – a little trivia – he made the mo-cap for Grandpa too. Like my character, they were just doing the whole mo-cap thing at once, and they were like, ‘Oh shit, we don’t have a Grandpa!’ They were like, ‘Kane, sit in the chair! Do Grandpa, be Grandpa. Sit back and drink blood from the thing.’ …I can’t believe he didn’t remember that. I think I reminded him that he did Grandpa. He was like, ‘How holy, yes, yes! I did that too!’“
The games Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game pit 4 victim characters vs. 3 killer characters. The story of the game has the following setting: When Maria Flores went missing, and local law enforcement apparently stalled in their search, her younger sister Ana joined some of Maria’s friends from college to pick up the trail. The game takes place before the events of director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre (See it HERE).
Hooper’s co-writer Kim Henkel was involved in the development of the video game. Maffei heard that the characters of Sissy and Johnny came from Henkel’s mind and were considered for inclusion in the original film.
Although Whalen did the mo-cap for the Hitch-hiker, Edwin Neal, who played the character in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, he voiced for the game. You can find out more about the killer characters at THIS LINK and the victim characters HERE.
