The All Progressive Congress (APC) has appointed some of the country’s leading advocates to defend the party and the president-elect, Bola Tinubu in court over his controversial victory in the February 25 presidential election.

However, one of the lawyers, Pius Akubo has rejected the appointment. According to a published press statement, the lawyer said he was not informed of the appointment to be part of the legal team that will defend Tinubu in court.

The statement reads:

“In the last twenty four (24) hours or so, the social media space has been back with an anonymous moving letter regarding the appointment of the Presidential Election Petition Legal Team by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in is my name listed as no. 10,” the attorney general said in a statement.

Mr. Akubo said, “With all due respect, I want to say that I had no previous experience in that role. As a matter of fact, I have not received any official communication on the subject so far. Suffice to say I was surprised to hear about that meeting on social media.”

Mr. Akubo pointed out that he could not defend the former governor of Lagos for personal reasons even if such a thing was being considered.

“In the circumstances and for personal reasons, I hereby decline that position,” he said.
