What is Sasquatch Sunset about?
“In the misty forests of North America, a family of Sasquatches – perhaps the last of their enigmatic kind – embark on an absurdist, epic, funny and ultimately poignant journey over the course of a year. These grim and noble giants fight for survival as they find themselves on a collision course with the ever-changing world around them. Starring Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg, acclaimed directors David and Nathan Zellner (Kumiko, Treasure Hunter) bring you the greatest Bigfoot story ever told,” the official synopsis reads.
David Zellner previously told Collider that there is no actual dialogue in the script for Sasquatch Sunset; instead, Eisenberg and Keough, who both play hairy humanoids, just complain for the entire movie.
“There is no communication. He talks about where they complain, and he talks about what they carry in the grunts, so it will be very specific about the information they carry,” he said. “But yes, it’s done through their language.”
With the script coming from David Zellner, Sasquatch Sunset is produced by Nathan, David, Lars Knudsen, David Harrari, Tyler Campellone, George Rush, and Eisenberg. Nathan Zellner also stars in the film, as does Christophe Zajac-Denek. Beau Is Afraid executive Ari Aster will produce the film.
After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024, Sasquatch Sunset is getting a limited release in the United States on April 12, 2024 from Bleeker Street. It will expand to more theaters next week.
