Shayma Ahmed felt helpless. Two weeks into the Israel-Gaza war, electricity, drinking water and food were already in short supply.

She and her family were displaced seven times as they tried to find safety from Israeli strikes.

The 20-year-old engineering student’s past life, one of studying, baking and spending time with her sister, was a distant memory. So she did the only thing she felt she could: She picked up her phone and started recording an audio diary.
