Disney’s Bob Iger confirms that The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the first film of the new Star Wars slate, possibly hitting theaters in 2026.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that The Mandalorian & Grogu the first film of the new film will be Star wars slate, which means it will likely hit theaters in 2026.

Disney currently has two Star wars films on the schedule for that year: May 22, 2026 and December 18, 2026. Bob Iger’s comments seem to reflect that The Mandalorian & Grogu it will fill that first slot, but like this Star wars we are talking, anything could happen. We’ve seen more than a few release dates moved around.

The Mandalorian & Grogu directed by Jon Favreau, who also produces alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. The next project will be directed by James Mangold (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) and takes place 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga and the first Jedi explore and discover the Force. “Jim was something [Mangold] immediately, and I think it’s a great compliment to what we’re doing by moving into the future with Rey, and then understanding a little more where she came from all this,” explained Kennedy. “Because it will be at the heart of the creation of the new Jedi Order, so it could be very cool to find out where that could have started with the beginning of the Jedi.
