The Russo Brothers admit to James Gunn, that they will not direct a Batman DCU film
The brotherly directing duo of Joe and Anthony Russo are no strangers to directing big superhero projects, but a Batman movie is one project they are not interested in doing.
Recently, rumors have surfaced that the two wanted to direct Batman movie after an interview with Comicbook.com saw the pair say that Batman is one of their favorite characters.
However, the couple clarified that directing a Batman movie is one thing they “would never do” in a recent interview with Fandango at a red carpet event. Although they wouldn’t make a Batman movie, the two said they “respect DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn and would be happy to work with him.”
“We love James [Gunn], we love it,” Joe Russo said. “We support everything he’s doing over there [at DC]we would be happy to work with him anytime – [but] he wouldn’t be on Batman.”
The couple then noted that when asked the question about their favorite DC characters, they usually try to think of something weirder or funnier, and they knew something could to be made of their answer, but they couldn’t think of anything other than Batman as the answer. Regardless, it seems unlikely that there will be a Russo Brothers Batman movie in the near future.
