The star of the original Gremlins is predicting a third movie
Zach Galligan believes that the “endgame” for Warner Bros. to produce the third Gremlins film after the success of Secrets of the Mogwai.
We all know the three rules of a mogwai: don’t expose it to sunlight, don’t get wet and don’t feed it after midnight. Although that third point is up for debate as to its interpretation, one thing is that the desire of the third part is not Gremlins movie – at least for its original star, Zach Galligan, who played Billy Peltzer in the 1984 film and its 1990 series, The New Batch. With an animated series Gremlins: The Secret of the Mogwai proving to be a hit, Galligan may be right in his call Gremlins 3.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Galligan said that the studio must have a plan for the Gremlins franchise if they have invested more time and money in it The Secret of the Mogwai. “I can’t figure out why Warner Bros. would do that. two seasons – not one, but two seasons – of the animated series, and it would cost a lot of money, if there wasn’t some kind of ending. And usually the endgame for a big studio like Warner Bros. Discovery is a live-action film. A live-action movie is always where you’re going to make the most money. Super Mario Bros. just confirmed that!” And with Baby Yoda – who Gremlins director Joe Dante knows that Gizmo is clearly a ripoff – in the public conscience, there’s definitely a place for bringing back the beloved mogwai nostalgia puppet.
Therefore, Galligan wants a Gremlins 3which quenches the thirst a little better than Mountain Dew…“Maybe the endgame, I hope, is the third movie. I don’t think it’s going to be a reboot, though, since Chris Columbus has dismissed that idea. He owns part of the rights.” As far as Columbus – who wrote the first Gremlins – yes, he previously said that a script has been written and he hopes that the film will not have to rely on CGI.
The Gremlins suffrage had been dormant ever since The New Batch – still one of the funnest sequels to any ’80s movie – came out nearly 25 years ago. But a third film could totally work with the right creatives and cast. Of course, we had to have Zach Galligan, who would even come on Gremlins: The Secret of the Mogwai, showing his commitment to the series. But filmmakers may have trouble getting Phoebe Cates, who retired from acting and hasn’t been in a movie since 2001’s. The Anniversary Party.
