His films are emotionally devastating and leave a deep impression on the audience. In this sense, The Whale is not far from what fans have come to expect from him.

Whale release date and where to watch

The Whale has a scheduled release date of Friday, December 9, 2022.

It is being released theatrically in the US by A24 on this date and has no confirmed streaming release date yet.

As for UK favorites, we predict it will hit cinemas in early 2023 as awards season approaches.

The film premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on Sunday, September 4, 2022, and many critics praised Brendan’s central performance as Charlie.

What is the whale about?

Charlie is a 600-pound middle-aged English teacher who is completely estranged from his family after leaving him for another man who later dies.

However, he now tries to bond with his daughter, Ellie (played by Sadie Sink).

Dealing with themes of guilt, remorse and reconciliation, The Whale is sure to be a heartbreaking experience, and The Independent reports that Brendan was moved to tears when it screened in Venice.

‘I wanted to disappear into it’

Brendan previously spoke to Vanity Fair about the project:

“If there is no danger, why bother? At this point in my career I want to learn from the people I am working with. I have such variety, so many highs and lows, so what I’m looking forward to, doing this in my second half, is feeling like I’m contributing to the craft and that I’m learning. from it.”

He added: “This is a major opportunity. I wanted to disappear into it. My hope was that I was unrecognizable. I wanted to know what I was capable of.”
