Tia Mowry Says It Took ‘Years’ To ‘Process’ Decision To File For Divorce
In an exclusive interview with HelloBeautiful, the 44-year-old explained that it took her “years” to decide to file for divorce. She said she loves “being a wife.” However, she also realized that adherence to “tradition” does not allow for “change”.
“I love being a wife. But I understand that tradition can be a blessing and a curse. What I mean by that is that tradition does not want change, while change is constant.”
The actor then explained that the death of her grandmother in 2019 and the death of her niece, Alaina Housley, in 2018 made her ask herself if she was truly happy.
“That woke me up. I asked myself, ‘Tia, are you happy?’ And I said, I really need to find my peace and happiness. That’s when I went to therapy…”
Mowry explained that in therapy, she began to “grow, grow, learn and grow. ” In addition, she even had an “aha moment”.
“The real moment where I was, you know what? It’s time to start living your truth.”
Despite what was achieved, the actor explained that it took her about five years before she finally settled on the divorce decision.
“It was probably five years before I decided to make my decision. It took me so long to process everything and realize that it’s okay. “…
Today, Mowry believes that change is “constant,” and she encourages others that “it’s okay” to “let go of something” that no longer “aligns or serves you .”
The actor talks about setting an example for his children
The actor also explained that her decision to file for divorce from Hardrict was also for her son, Cree, 11, and daughter, Cairo, 5. She believes it was important for them to “see their mother walk in truth.
“Part of my decision was for them as well. For those who see their mother walking in truth. I feel that it is a good lesson for them because it was not an easy decision. This was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make in my life. But if they see that mom can do it…
[They can say] my mother is alive and running her truth. I want my kids to do that. That is the best gift I can give them” …
Mowry continued by explaining that she wants her children to live a life that is true to them, their choices, and their happiness.
“I want them to not live a life that I want them to live, not to live a life that everyone else wants them to live or what they think is best right to be or to live. I want them to see that it’s okay to have a bad day. I want them to see that it’s okay to chase your happiness. I want them to see that it’s okay to live your truth.”
Before the interview ended, the actor shared where she is now following such an important life change.
“I don’t take life too seriously. What I mean by that is in the context of perfection, [I’m] just going with the flow. “…
