Tom Rothman on Upcoming Quentin Tarantino Film (Final) Landing – The Hollywood Reporter
Sony studio head Tom Rothman made a rare stop on the press line at the May 30 premiere Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versewhere he told The Hollywood Reporter when it comes to the WGA, he is, “Always optimistic, and that’s all you can do is hope for the best and plan for the worst. Certainly everyone would like to see resolution, it would be better for everyone involved.”
Rothman said that Sony productions have not been disbanded – although there has been improvement – and when it comes to other guilds, such as SAG, his only hope is that it will be resolved before a strike. “I’m always optimistic, in my job you have to be optimistic,” he said, and when pressed for thoughts on hot-button issues like AI, I remained tight-lipped, saying, “I’m not smart enough to know.”
One more thing Rothman is optimistic about: landing Quentin Tarantino’s latest (and reportedly last) film The Film Criticafter Tarantino told Deadline at Cannes that he would likely partner with Sony on the film “because it’s the last game in town that’s just, totally, committed to experience theater.”
Asked for his answer, Rothman noted, “I read that” before adding, “I hope so.”
