The explosion of the pipeline near Pasvalys has evacuated nearby residents as a tower of flames into the sky, reaching more than 165 feet. The company that operates the Amber Grid pipeline has started an investigation into the cause of the leak. Meanwhile, pictures from the scene show cars surrounded on the roads around the nearby town of Valakelie and people fleeing the fire. It is reported that the broken pipe is now plugged with gas which no longer passes through but fire crews are still struggling to put out the flames. Nemunas Biknius, CEO of Amber Grid, said: “We are sorry about this incident in the gas pipeline system. “We immediately began to investigate the situation of the event and ensure the supply of gas to consumers. “At this time, all our efforts and the efforts of the responsible services are aimed at containing the impact of the fire and ensuring safety. “We will provide more information on the circumstances of what happened as we have more information.”
