Usher reflects on the “hardest thing” he’s ever “done”
“The King of R&B” sat down for an exclusive interview with VIBE and opened up about his Vegas residency and decades-long career. During the conversation, the 44-year-old reflected openly on the “hardest” lesson he has learned over the years.
“I think the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do was being single,” the singer explained before quietly thinking.
Continuing the conversation, Usher said he doesn’t like “being alone” and began to reflect on his upbringing.
“The idea of creating a life with someone is something I’d like to do, maybe because I haven’t or haven’t seen that. And I get to correct that perception by having an amazing partnership. I can then finally have what I wanted to see. “
Singer Talks “Recovery” & What Helped Him “Be Able” To Be Alone
As the conversation continued, the singer explained that “healing took a lot,” and “looking back,” he believes he suffered from “not necessarily the kind of love he had.” which he “wanted as a child”.
“Maybe I suffered a lot from him – maybe I didn’t have the kind of love I would have wanted as a child. And I wanted to know what that was about. I did not have the relationship I would like to have with my father. And that my relationship with my mother was slowly beginning to be strained. Because of one, we worked together. Two, we had our differences. Three, I was getting older, but I think it was just life lessons…”
Usher then shared the resource that ultimately helped him.
“The therapy really helped me to be able to be on my own.”
Usher’s Superstar Ex, Chilli, recently reflected on their relationship
As The Shade Room previously reported, Usher isn’t the only one looking back on days of yore. In June, the singer’s ex, Rozanda “Chill” Thomas, explained that it was up to them to move on after their brief relationship in the early 2000s.
“I like hard. I was like, ‘God, why can’t I get over this?’ He couldn’t either.”
At the time, Chilli explained that she would be barred from participating in the dating pool because of her ongoing links with the “OMG” singer.
“I even stopped dating. Because before that I thought that if I met the right one in that time I was not over [Usher] it wouldn’t work. I would never want to go over the fence.”
Fortunately, things worked out for both parties. Chilli is now dating actor Mathew Lawrence, and Usher is dating his partner Jennifer Goicoechea.
In addition, the couple has two children, a son and a daughter, and Usher is also the father of two children from his previous marriage to Tameka Foster.
