Zack Snyder submitted an R-rated Star Wars movie before Rebel Moon
Director Zack Snyder wants to make an R-rated Star Wars movie.
The Justice League director has a new movie coming up for Netflix called Rebel Moon. This film is an epic space opera that audiences expect to compare to Star Wars. The reason is that this film started as a Star Wars film that Snyder sent to Lucasfilm while he was in post-production on Man of Steel.
“It was Seven Samurai in space,” he told Empire. “And my concept for it was a Star Wars movie.” There were many reasons why this film did not come to fruition. “The sale [of Lucasfilm to Disney] just happened,” said Zack Snyder. “There was that window where, you know, who knows what’s possible? I was like, ‘I don’t want any of your characters. I don’t want to do anything with known characters, I just want to do my own thing on the side.’ And originally, I was like, ‘It should be rated R!’ That was almost a start. “
When is Rebel Moon coming out?
Rebel Moon will release on Netflix on December 22, 2023.
The Rebel Moon cast includes Sofia Boutella as Kora. The other characters will be played by Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Charlie Hunnam, Cary Elwes, and Anthony Hopkins in a voice role.
“A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the forces of a terrestrial ruler named Balisarius,” reads the film’s synopsis. “The desperate civilians send Kora, a young woman with a secret past, to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them challenge the ruler.”
